The Four Levels of Existence (Greece 1976)

Freakemporium:

"Wow what a fuzz fest this is and one can also see why it's become such a sought after item on the collectors market. Hard rock psychedelia which could be the ultimate fuzz guitar overkill along with Blue Phantom. 10 tracks which have great vocals (all sung in Greek) great melodic second guitar lines with an orgy of fuzz layered on top. Beautiful repro with 4 page insert (again in Greek ) and a one sheet (in English ) about this great psychedelic rock act. Originals are impossible to find as the album was withdrawn very soon after release in the mid 70's."

psychedelic-music.net:

"Maybe the most unknown Greek band playing hard rock psychedelia in the seventies was a group with an extremely puzzling name: Ta Tessera Epipeda Tis Yparxis (or The Four Levels Of Existence to all you non-Greeks out there). They made one LP in 1976, on a very small label (called Venus) and in a very limited edition. The album almost immediately disappeared and was never released again. Surprisingly, the sound is somewhat akin to that of Spacemen Three! (I've heard bits of it recently and I must say it does sound like a killer...)

forcedexposure:

"The first ever official CD reissue of an album that many people consider to be the best Greek psychedelic album ever recorded, a belief that would mean that the Four Levels of Existence LP would supersede albums by artists like Axis, Aphrodite's Child, Socrates, and George Romanos. We'll let you decide the argument, for of one thing there is no doubt -- that this is tremendous, hard edged psychedelic/progressive material, originally released in a very small quantity by the private Venus label from 1976. As band leader Athanasios Alatas said: 'Through Nick's musical quest, Mario's sensitivity, Christos's madness, and my thoughts, we create many songs, all characterized by a psychedelic music sound, Greek lyrics, and monumental guitar solos.' This carefully documented reissue contains the entire Four Levels of Existence LP (its reissue debut) -- the only recordings they ever made. A twenty-four page booklet includes historical background on the Greek music scene of the early 1970s, details of the band's past written by Alatas, rare photos of the group, as well as lyrics to all the songs in both Greek and English. This CD edition is very strictly limited to 1,000 copies." (buy it)
