White Boy and the Average Rat Band (1980)

(anyone have any more info on this incredible record?)

AcidArchives:

"(Baltimore, MD) This is stretching the limits of the Archives here -- it's an 80s album and sounds much closer to the kind of post-punk hard rock that got college airplay in the late 80s than it does like anything else reviewed on this website. That said, it's speedy not-quite-metal hard rock with a pulverizing distortion sound (to call it "fuzz guitar" is to understate it by a mile). One song is acoustic, but mostly this is just an in-your-face blitzkrieg, and it's really great."

You're right. I tried it in Explorer and it worked fine. The redirect wasn't working for me in Firefox. Great blog. Thanks a lot.

Artist: WHITE BOY & THE AVERAGE RAT BAND
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Roach
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"Reish of heavy & fuzzed out Acid Archive proto metal jammer that will satisfy Heshers & Rockers alike. Word has always been this masterpiece is the work of a lone duder from Virginia yet cover has 4 bad asses spoiling for a rager. Sure sounds like a one man frenzy, but who knows for sure? Kenneth Higney gets some Schenker chops & becomes a fixture at Lamour where he functions as gangbang meat for Meanstreak. Yeah! How could you not be fucking stoked? Edition of 400 copies." - Roach. I'm one of the two drummers who played on this Whiteboy release. All the songs were written by Mike Matney, who also played all the guitar and bass tracks and did the vocals. The album was recorded in Richlands Virginia, at a small 4 track studio. The live band performed at a "battle of the bands" competition, won and spent the prize money on the album pressing. The guys on the album cover were the live band; Mike Matney in the white jacket, Seth Kelly with the long straight black hair played rhythm guitar, Tommy Altizer with the shorter hair played bass and Tim Gilbert with the funny looking cig hanging out his mouth played drums. Matney & Gilbert recorded all the songs, except sector 387 & Maybe I'm a Fool, with no rehearsal and a single take. Jerry Hogston played drums on Sector 387 and Maybe I'm a Fool....he also did drums with the live band.
That's the true story of this band, when I was a part of things.
